B S Glaire is highly recommended by many bookbinders.
Instructions: Paint a coat of glaire onto the leather, wait about 20 minutes and paint on another coat. After a further 20 minutes you can apply your gold leaf. This glaire is ideal as you can leave it as long as you like. If you do not get around to finishing the gilding in one go there is no need to reglaire, even if you come back to it weeks later.
